The Sixth Ornithofestival took place between 26. and 28. October 2017 in Široki Brijeg and Grude. The focus was given to Mostarsko blato as an Important Bird Area.
After the opening ceremony in Široki Brijeg, a film “Birds Without Borders” was shown and followed by the exhibition which highlighted the importance of protection of Mostarsko blato. The opening of the exhibition was attended by more than 100 people, including the students from local schools. On that occasion, the participants recalled Ilhan Dervović, who suddenly passed away in 2016.
The Sixth Ornithofestival was organized by Ornithological Society “Naše ptice” and Ecological Association “Lijepa Naša” from Čapljina. A total of 28 participants from Belgium, Germany, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina took part in working part of the Festival and presented a number of works related to bird fauna of Mostarsko blato, discussed the potentials of developing tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina and were introduced to IT opportunities and applications for monitoring birds, and ways of planning management of future protected areas. The Ornithofestival ended with the field trip to Mostarsko blato and Blidinje Nature Park.
