The initiative to fight Common Quail poaching

Ornithological Society “Naše ptice”, Centre for Environment and Society for Research and Protection of Biodiversity have launched an initiative urging the relevant ministries, inspectors and responsible hunting federations and associations to prevent illegal hunting of Common Quail using sound decoys and other illegal measures. Poaching activities are particularly present in the area of Lijevče polje, in Posavina, Semberija and on karst poljes from Trebinje to Bosanski Petrovac. According to BirdLife International, the population of Common Quail has decreased by more than 50% during the last 40 years. Because of this, the Common Quail is protected in most European countries, but in Bosnia and Herzegovina it is listed as a huntable species, which can be hunted from 01 August to 31 December.
